La mela "Capodiciuccio", o "cap'e ciucce", tipica delle aree interne delle province di Avellino e Salerno è chiamata così per le sue grosse dimensioni. Il frutto è, infatti, piuttosto grande, ha una forma tendente al cono e il colore della buccia tendente al giallo. è particolarmente apprezzata per il suo gusto molto particolare e raffinato, preservato dal rispetto del metodo di coltivazione tradizionale, a vaso classico. Matura intorno alla terza decade di settembre. Oggi, purtroppo, la mela capodiciuccio, nonostante le sue ottime qualità organolettiche è stata progressivamente sostituita, assieme ad altre varietà locali, da cultivar del tipo Golden.
Mela "Capodiciuccio", or "cap'e ciucce", is typical of the areas of Avellino and Salerno and it's called this way because its size and shape remind of a donkey (called ciuccio) head (in Neapolitan language "capa"). It is, in fact, rather large and has a conic shape with a yellowish skin. It is very appreciated for its particular and refined flavour, preserved by using the traditional cultivation methods of the classic vase. It is ready to be picked around the third decade of September. Despite its excellent organoleptic qualities mela capodiciuccio and other local varieties today have, unfortunately been replaced by clones such as golden apples.
