La mela "Sergente" è tuttora diffusa nelle province di Caserta, Avellino, Napoli e Benevento. è molto simile ad una altra varietà campana, l'Annurca, anche se è lievemente più grande e vagamente più aromatica; la sua pianta è molto vigorosa, e quindi impone sesti d'impianto ampi. La Sergente, insieme alla più nota Annurca, era alla base della melicoltura campana fino all'immediato dopoguerra; successivamente è stata via via soppiantata, nonostante le ottime qualità organolettiche dei frutti, dalla stessa Annurca, certamente più pregiata e più richiesta dal punto di vista commerciale. In molti frutteti tradizionali di Annurca, la Sergente è tuttora presente come impollinatore.
"Mela Sergente" is still produced in the provinces of Caserta, Avellino, Naples and Benevento. It is very similar to another variety of apple from Campania, "Annurca", although it is a little larger and more aromatic. Its trees are vigorous and impose large cultivation areas. Sergente, with the better known "Annurca", was at the base of apple cultivation in Campania in the immediate post-war period; despite the excellent organoleptic qualities of its fruits, it has been gradually replaced by the "Annurca" itself, definitely of better quality and more in demand from the commercial point of view. In lots of traditional fruit groves, "Annurca" is still present as pollinator.
